Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
About Concrete Slabs
I want to install a metal building on my property, can you help with that?
Yes. We specialize in installing concrete slabs for metal buildings. If you have plans or you’re working with a builder or architect, we can take a look at the specific requirements for your new structure and come up with a quote for you based on that data. We will also perform a site evaluation to inspect the surface conditions and review the area.
I’m building a new building, can you pour the concrete footings?
Yes. We can pour footings or piers for your new structure. We are also able to perform the excavation required to make room for footings for monolithic slabs and piers. If you have plans for or working with an architect, we can go over the data and will also make an on site inspection to go over the surface conditions before getting your quote put together.
I want a pad to park my boat, RV or truck–can you pour a pad for that?
Yes. We can pour any size pad for any parking purpose. Since some vehicles are heavier than standard passenger vehicles, that could affect the target PSI and reinforcement requirements for your project. Whatever your pad needs are, we can supply a robust and lasting foundation for your building project.
What is the difference between a slab and a pad?
A slab is a structural element and refers to a slab-on-grade that sits atop footings and or foundation wall as well as soil. These are reinforced with wire mesh, rebar or fiber-reinforcement. The term ‘pad’ is sometimes used interchangeably but is not a structural element. Pads might be an area of raised concrete to support machinery or objects.
I’m looking for a cement pad installer near me, is that you?
Yes. Cement is often used interchangeably with the word concrete. Cement is actually an ingredient in concrete, along with a mixture of aggregates and water. Cement itself is a binder, or chemical that adheres to other materials it is mixed with to bind them together into one common mass.
What PSI does my concrete need to be? Do you control this?
Yes. Different projects, applications and areas require concrete to be a certain PSI. Most projects would be required to be 3000 PSI, but it is common for 3500 PSI and 4000 PSI mixes to be called for from the cement plant. If you’re building a slab or foundation element, the exact PSI will be stated and that is what will be ordered from the plant.
My project calls for a concrete pad footing, can you install that?
Yes. We can install slabs-on-grade, which is the industry term for a pad. Footings support foundation walls, which in turn support the slab. Some industry terms are used interchangeably but what’s important is knowing the footing is poured under a foundation wall which supports a slab-on-grade, or pad.
I need a concrete base for a storage shed, can you help with this?
Yes. Whether you’re building a storage shed, metal building or a whole house, we can pour a base, or slab, for your project. We can also provide a quote for the connecting sidewalks to reach from your backyard patio to your new metal building or storage shed. If your project requires vehicle access to your new build, we can also install the driveway to reach it. We can install stamped concrete slabs if you want it to be imprinted.
Is a concrete slab better than a crawlspace?
This depends on your location and climate. For damp areas, it is recommended to go with a slab foundation. Depending on the soil conditions in your area, it might be better to go with a crawlspace if excavating for a slab is difficult or not practical. Concrete is much stronger and more robust than crawl space foundation walls, but can be most costly.
