Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
About Concrete Sidewalks
I need a residential sidewalk contractor near me, can you help?
Yes. We specialize in residential concrete walkways and path installation. We are able to install new paths where nothing currently exists by grading and putting down proper subbase before constructing forms, pouring the new surface and finishing it with your desired patterns including faux brick, cobble stone or just a simple broom finish.
I have an existing path and I’d like the sidewalk removed, can you do this?
Yes. We are able to break up and remove existing surfaces to make way for new work. Broken up concrete is called “urbanite” and we will gather all of those pieces from your old path and dispose of them properly off site. Once the old surface is removed, we can regrade and apply a new subbase for whatever new design you have in mind.
Can you build an ADA compliant ramp?
Yes. We can build ADA compliant ramps. ADA compliant ramps must have no more than an 8.33% slope and must be consistent from end to end with a uniform slope. These are very few exceptions to this rule, so if you need an ADA compliant ramp it is best to contact a professional concrete installer because a re-do will have to include the cost of removing the tear out.
I need concrete steps and a landing, can you install that?
Yes. We can pour new steps or stairs and the landings to go with them. If you just want a simple design, we can apply a broom finish. If you’re looking for something more decorative we can apply stamped designs to steps and landings, as well as your entire path or walkway to make everything uniform.
I have an existing sidewalk, can you put a stamped pattern on it?
Maybe. Applying new stamped concrete over existing surfaces can be troublesome as any faults on the bottom layer will affect the top layer. This means if your sidewalk is cracked or heaving, anything you pour on top will also soon be cracked and out of level. Pouring new concrete over an existing surface usually means having to apply at least 2” before stamping.
What kinds of stamped walkways and stamped sidewalks can you do?
There are several popular designs that are currently available in stamps. If you want your surface to look like a wooden deck, there are stamps that create the appearance of wooden planks that are much more durable than organic material. If you wanted your path to look like arranged cobblestones, brick, tile or stonework, those also look great.
I want a path or walkway to my garage, can you help with that?
Yes. A simple pathway from a door to your driveway would commonly be referred to as an apron. We can install aprons around your garage or front porch to give you better access to your parking area. This can minimize the amount of dirt that gets tracked in because it’s easier to keep surfaces clean if you don’t have to walk through mud. We can also install sidewalks from your backyard patio to outbuildings.
How much do concrete paths cost? What is your price?
It’s hard to give an exact price without seeing the project site. This is because our price depends on what exactly your expectations are. Do you need concrete removed? Will you need grading work or a new subbase? What is the access like? What finish are you thinking? These are all factors that determine a bid and we must conduct a site evaluation for that.
Can I add stamped designs to an existing concrete surface?
Maybe. Stamps and patterns can only be applied right after the concrete is poured and while it is still wet. For existing flatwork, this would involve pouring at least 2” over your existing surface and stamping it while wet. This can be problematic because the strength of this new layer is only as durable as the existing slab it was poured over. Maintaining your sidewalks require regular concrete sealing.
