Our Concrete Company FAQs

I'm looking for a concrete contractor near me who can take a look at my project, can you do that?

Yes! We provide on site evaluations so that we know exactly what conditions and challenges are present before we can know for sure what a concrete job will involve. This will involve a consultation with you regarding what exactly you need or want from this project, especially dimensions, access points, timelines and other factors.

How soon can you start my project?

Since our work is in demand, it is important to schedule your work as soon as possible since other clients may book us before your job. We will always provide a timetable for your project with an estimated start date. Uncontrollable elements such as heavy rain can delay start dates, but we always finish one job before moving to the next.

How much will my concrete project cost?

Since every project is unique, there are many factors at play which determine your price. To build your concrete quote, we must consider the site’s access, removal of existing surfaces, excavation, grading, subbase preparation, reinforcements requirements, your desired finishing options and finally the material cost for each yard of concrete from the local mixing plant.

How much does concrete cost per yard?

The national average for a single yard in 2024 is about $125 and rising. This amount will increase depending on delivery fees, your distance from the cement mixing plant, target PSI or if your requested delivery amount is less than a full truckload. Nationwide, on average, most ready-mix plants charge between $110 and $165 per yard.

How fast can you complete my concrete project?

Every project is different from the next. Smaller residential projects can be completed in a single day, while larger jobs can take several days or more. There are many factors that determine the length of any project, including access to the pouring site, temperatures and precipitation, excavation, grading or permitting requirements.

What exactly is considered hardscaping?

Hardscaping is a term that refers to all the elements of landscape design which are non-living. This would include your concrete, brick, stone, rock or wood surfaces–typically this means your driveways, patios and sidewalks. Landscaping refers to all the living surfaces, such as your lawn and garden area.

What causes the most problems when installing concrete?

There are many ways to improperly install concrete. This is why it is important to hire professional concreters. Some of the most common signs of improper installations are spalling, cracking, honeycombing, bleeding and delamination. All these problems are greatly minimized by hiring an experienced contractor.

I need concrete replaced, can you demo and remove the debris?

Yes! If your project involves replacing or removing existing surfaces, it will be spelled out in your contract and addressed during your site evaluation. Most projects do include the removal of all debris and only on some occasions would this not be included in a concrete bid. We also offer concrete removal as a stand alone service.

How long does concrete take to cure?

Typically, new surfaces only take 24 to 48 hours to be dry enough for walking or driving on but the amount of time it takes to fully cure is about 28 days. This process occurs as the cement mixed with water causes rock-like crystals to begin growing, which is what gives concrete its strength. Cold temperatures can complicate this by stopping that growth.

Will you need to reinforce my concrete with rebar?

Not all projects require rebar. Many projects are better suited with fiber-reinforcement and each project is different. If your slab is thick enough, it is advisable to reinforce it with rebar. This will improve the strength of the common mass and reduce the odds of cracking, spalling or failure. This issue is addressed at every site evaluation.

Can new concrete be poured over existing concrete?

Yes, but the new surface will inherit any flaws that are in the surface beneath it. These two layers will not naturally bond together, so a bonding agent would be required. Self-leveling overlays or toppings can save an old slab from being torn out, but it is important to make sure the new slab will not suffer from the conditions of the slab beneath.

How long is concrete supposed to last?

Modern foundations are expected to have an average lifespan of at least 100 years. Surfaces such as driveways, sidewalks and patios that get heavy use are expected to last at least 50 years. Many factors determine the useful life of modern surfaces including temperature and moisture levels. Roman concrete poured over 2000 years ago is as strong as ever.

Do you offer financing or payment plans?

Yes! JP Custom Concrete works with a third-party lender to provide financing opportunites to our clients who don’t want to put their project on hold.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes! We are licensed and insured to cover any job we take on in the great state of Texas.

Why would I hire a concrete contractor? Can't I just pour my own?

Of course, but most things are easier said than done. Even if you’re confident enough to undertake such a grueling project, we advise homeowners to reconsider. There are endless ways to ruin a project that are very likely to occur on amateur jobs and experienced contractors have to charge more to fix poor work.

Where will the cement ready-mix delivery trucks wash out?

Cement plants have policies to reduce the problems associated with improper washouts. Washout facilities are located at ready-mix plants and, for larger projects, portable mobile washout stations are located near the worksite. These are never located close to storm drains inlets, open ditches or water courses.

How long until I can walk or drive on my new concrete?

It is usually safe to walk or drive on new surfaces within 24 to 48 hours after pouring. It is common to put caution tape around wet work that has not reached this point in the curing process. We will let you know when it will be ok to walk on your new surface, and will be able to provide that time when the concrete pouring is complete.

What is the best way to contact your concrete company?

We try to make this very easy for our clients. You can click to call or text our phone number listed at the top and bottom of our website. If you fill out our contact form for a quote, we will get back to you as soon as possible. We also list our email address if you prefer email. Whatever you prefer, giving us a call is always the fastest way to reach us.

What is it like to work with your concrete company?

Outstanding customer service and satisfaction is our primary strategy for gaining our clients’ trust and most of our work comes from referrals given by past clients. Great communication and setting expectations is how we achieve our goal to leave every client thrilled with the results of our labor. It all begins when you reach out to us.
